Welcome to Holy Trinity

We had a wonderful time at our Parish's 125th Anniversary Mass with Bishop Steiner, Fr. Waddill (former pastor) and Fr. Heiko on the Feast of the Holy Trinity, May 18th.
We had a terrific luncheon afterwards, and got to celebrate a Converse baptism this weekend.

Father Andrew Thomas, our New Pastor Will Arrive in July
Father Andrew Thomas, currently the Associate Pastor at Our Lady of the Lake parish in Lake Oswego, has been selected by the Archdiocese as our new pastor starting July 1st.

At a meeting of the Parish Council at Holy Trinity on May 20th, Father Heiko introduced him as Father Andrew (or Father “T” if you prefer, but not Father Thomas). He is 32 years old and was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from Duquesne University. He moved to Oregon in 1998 and was hired by a Catholic school in the Portland area as a music and religious coordinator for kindergarten through sixth grade. He entered the Mt. Angel Seminary in 2000 and received his ordination in 2005. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart in Medford where he served for two years, before moving to his current position in the Portland area. He serves on the Continuing Education Board for the Archdiocese and is active in the Knights of Columbus.

Father Andrew is blessed with a beautiful trained tenor voice and music has always been one of his passions. He has been involved in youth ministry in Lake Oswego and plans to bring this experience with him to help us get more young people active in our parish. He enjoys playing golf and was thrilled when he realized he would be living close to Bandon Dunes.

Receiving this assignment came as a surprise to him and he apologized to the Parish Council for having already made plans and airline reservations for a vacation from July 5th to July 18th. He assured all present that after his return, he would be looking forward to moving to the beautiful southern Oregon coast and beginning his first assignment as a parish pastor.
St. James Society Sending Mass
Mgsr. Finbarr O'Leary flew out and joined the Archdiocese in our Priest Retreat to present Fr. Heiko with a Missionary Cross, and have Archbishop Vlazny give him a Sending Off Blessing before he temporarily leaves the Archdiocese to join the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle to do work in Ecuador for five years. Here is Fr. Heiko with the Archbishop and Monsignor posing with his family at St. Joseph's Chapel at Mt. Angel Abbey & Seminary. This happened on the Feast of St. Boniface, the Apostle to Germany (and bishop of Fr. Heiko's Mother's home County in Germany).
Fr. Heiko soon leaves for Ecuador
When Fr. Heiko's assignment is complete at Holy Trinity (Summer 2008), his new assignment will be with the Missionary Society of St. James which serves the poor in Peru and Ecuador. He interviewed with them the week of May 21st at their beautiful and historic headquarters at St. Stephen's Church in Boston. Here is a poster summarizing their mission statement. For more information about the St. James Society visit: http://www.socstjames.com.
Fr. Heiko's mailing address will be the St. James Headquarters in Boston as it is not secure to mail directly to Ecuador. Priests traveling between HQ & Ecuador will bring packages. You can also make donations to Fr. Heiko's Mission by sending checks to the St. James Headquarters. The address is: Missionary Society of St. James 24 Clark Street Boston, MA 02109. E-mail: heikotony@gmail.com.
St. John's Says Goodbye to Fr. Heiko
St. John's threw a wonderful good-bye party for Fr. Heiko at Marvin & Sharon Zuber's house, with lots of food and drink on a sunny day! The forecast was for rain, but some people prayed all week for nice weather. Here is Fr. Heiko after St. John's presented him with one of his Missionary gifts . . . an Army Helmet!
Holy Trinity Says Goodbye to Fr. Heiko
Holy Trinity threw a goodbye party the day after St. John's did, on June 8th. Stephanie Arriola interviewed Fr. Heiko's mother secretly for an historic overview of Fr. Heiko's life with a Candygram. Alice & Kathleen Stadelman presented him with some fun gifts, and Sharon Hennick called the children, and Pastor Barbara Mudge & Pastor John Hubbard to give him a sending blessing. The Altar Society prepared a great spread of food!
Christi Freitag Graduates
Christi Freitag, a member of our youth group who was injured in a trampoline accident two years ago, finished her high school degree this year and graduated with the class of 2008! Here she is with her brother John, father John in the background, Fr. Heiko, her friend Rosy on her right, and aunt Nancy behind her.
Seniors Presented Bibles
At our last Wednesday Community Night of the year, we appreciate Catechists, and award the students with good attendance. We also handed out Bibles to our Seniors at this event this year. Here is Cindy Edson, a teacher at Bandon High School, presenting Bibles to our graduating Seniors: Jason Duval (pictured), Ian Frank (pictured facing away), Livier Ramos, Krysten McMahon & Archie Garrett.

Blessing of Fleet & Memorial
A large number of pastors from the Bandon Ministerial Association turned out for the Memorial Day Weekend Blessing of the Fleet and Memorial of those who died at sea. Here are several of us holding up a wreath on a Coast Guard Vessel for Andrew Hebert-Hoover who died in a crabbing boat.
Two Princesses from Holy Trinity
Also present at the Blessing of the Fleet were our new Princesses, two of which are members of our parish (Clarissa, 2nd from left, and Kayleigh, next to Fr. Heiko). You can see Holy Trinity Church & Rectory in the background on top of the bluff.

Altar Society among many to host party!
Here are members of the Altar Society kitchen crew who helped put on a terrific, fun and delicious luncheon for Holy Trinity's 125th Anniversary on May 18th (posing with Fr. Dale Waddill and Fr. Karl Schray). Thank you all!
125th Anniversary Preparations
Elaine Caldwell and Kathy Cowan designed this beautiful commemoration of all the pastors of Holy Trinity Catholic Church over the past 125 years. We are the oldest Catholic Church on the Oregon Coast. Many people have been working hard preparing a 125th Anniversary Edition of the Parish Photo Directory, preparing the Mass, and the celebration afterwards. Thank you!
Painting Parking Lot Lines
Bill Phillips (pictured here) and Francis Stadelman repainted the parking lot lines as part of the sprucing up of Holy Trinity for our 125th Anniversary. We also had two work days, one to clean up the parish grounds on May 3rd, and another to prepare the parish cemetery for Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks to all who helped!
Easter Vigil Baptisms at Holy Trinity
The three youngest Hennick children are baptized at the Easter Vigil Mass at Holy Trinity!
Congratulations!
Easter Sunday Baptism at St. John's
Godparents Rolando Rodriguez and Nan Britton and proud grandmother Priscilla Lang watch as 4 year old Wiley Lang is annointed with holy oil by Fr. Heiko during her baptism this Easter at St. John's. Following mass, a lively celebration brunch was enjoyed by all parishioners.
New Carpet Going In
The Altar Society is helping to fund a new carpet throughout the Parish Hall.
Mike Hennick won the bid, and here he is with his installer, Byrell Justice, looking at how easy it will be to remove the old carpet! Not bad!
Bill Freck & Sharon Hennick Coordinate
Bill Freck, from First Presbyterian, is waiting with Sharon Hennick (on left) and Millie, for more parishioners to arrive for their photo shoot for the directory. Each person or family gets four free 4x6 photos! Thank you Bill!
Gawad Kalinga Leaders
Here are some leaders of Gawad Kalinga in Oregon. (From left) Annie & Derek Maglalang, Rossana Holder, Helen Coughlin, Fr. Heiko & Rosemary are pictured here. Annie, Derek & Rossana came down from Portland. Helen is from Holy Redeemer, and coordinated the event. Gawad Kalinga set a goal to raise 700,000 homes in 7,000 communities in 7 years! They have almost met their goal, but there are still a great many poor out there! This started with a group called, "Singles for Christ" who wanted to combat the hostility between the Muslims & Catholics in Southern Philippines with charity. They built the first GK village for a Moslem community. To learn more about GK, visit www.ancopusa.org (acronym for ANswer the Cry Of the Poor).
